Hello!
My name is Yasmin Ramos Kuczynski and I'm currently majoring in Documentary Studies & Production with a minor in Environment & Society at Ithaca College. I'm incredibly passionate about cinematography and the aesthetics of film in general. I'm also highly interested in environmental studies, and how media can play a pivotal role in communicating the necessary actions we must take to maintain a stable environment. In the future, I hope to work with NGO's, visit different countries and learn about new cultures.
My Story
Ever since I could remember, I've been fascinated with documentaries and their ability to immerse viewers into spaces and different contexts. Being born and raised on the outskirts of São Paulo, Brazil, I've seen and experienced the beauty of flourishing nature and the struggles of social and economic disparity: two topics which have enhanced my love for non-fiction and driven me to pursue a career in communications. Since then, I have dedicated my studies to learning more about documentary filmmaking as well as topics regarding the environment. I am eager to continue educating myself through new experiences and work opportunities that will strengthen my ability to promote and dignify issue and voiceless communities to our world. Being born to a Brazilian mother and American father, I have had the privilege to experience two different sets of cultures and customs. My toddler through high school years were filled with diversity as I was lucky enough to attend a private international school through my father's teaching position. I have always been surrounded by people from different backgrounds and as I grew older, my curiosity for these differences grew. As I became more involved with film, I discovered that by creating visually striking and emotive narratives, I would be able to exhibit the beauty and struggle of marginalized cultures and environments. Visual communication holds immense power in today's world and my goal is to use it to encourage human connections and appreciation of unfamiliar stories.

A huge interest of mine has always been traveling. I love being able to experience new traditions and spaces. Throughout my life, I have been fortunate enough to travel to beautiful places in North and Central America. I have realized dreams such as seeing a coral reef for the first time and encountering a Manatee. Through these experiences, my love and appreciation for these places has grown immensely. In the future, I hope to portray the magic and importance of these places to our world.
